Packing

1 carton, 59 x 49 x 38cm. 0.110m3, Nett 20kg, Gross 22kg.

Application

Calibration of differential pressure (DP) transducers / transmitters at high static pressures on gas. This calibration is specially important for fiscal metering of large flows of gas using orifice plates.

The tester is also used for calibrating DP cells in metering stations without removing the cells from the pipework. Great care is required in such installations to attain full accuracy.

One side of the tester may be used as a standard dead-weight tester for calibrating pressure transducers / transmitters, pressure gauges and switches.

Principle of operation

Two oil lubricated piston units are connected to each side of the DP cell, these are balanced against each other at the static gas pressure specified. They are then isolated from each other and small weights corresponding to pressures (in water or mbar) are added to the piston unit on the high pressure side of the DP cell thus developing a differential pressure across the cell.

This differential pressure depends only on the effective area of the piston unit and the mass of the small weights added

Differential Dead-weight Tester 249T

Description

The two piston units are mounted in an aluminium block and loaded with non-magnetic austenitic stainless steel weights. Reducing valve, needle valve and pressure gauges are fitted on a panel above and volume adjusters for fine control are mounted under the block. A lighted screen, lit by a lamp, helps balancing the piston units.

A supply of high pressure nitrogen is required slightly above the static pressure.

The standard Pressure Connections (Differential & supply) are 1/4″ BSP female

Certification

The Standard Accuracy testers are supplied with TRACEABLE Area and Mass Certificates

The Class A Accuracy Testers are supplied with UKAS Area and Mass Certificates.

Application

The Dead-Weight Tester is used for high accuracy pressure measurement and enables precision associated with laboratory instruments to be attained under adverse conditions.

On well heads it measures well head gas pressure and hydraulic test pressure of riser pipe.

At Gas Terminals it monitors gas pressures associated with flow metering.

On pipelines it measures pressures on leak testing and on yield testing as well as fractional pressure losses.

In Thermal Power Plants it accurately measures steam pressures for efficiency testing.

Dead-weight Pipeline Tester BGH80

Principle of Operation (see illustration)

To measure a pressure, weights are added to the piston unit corresponding to a pressure just below that to be measured. Then total downward force of the weights plus weight carrier is then in excess of the pressure to be measured and is balance by the pressure produced by the hand pump applied to the stepped area of the piston which pushes it upwards. This low pressure is indicated on the precision dial pressure gauge specially graduated so that the reading of the gauge only is added to the pressure equivalent of the weights used.

Traditionally these measurements have been taken by adding or subtracting of small weights on the dead weight piston unit; this method is very awkward and not as accurate.

Use of Tester

To measure the pressure of water the water/oil interface is within the pressure chamber.

To measure the pressure of air or natural gas, pipes are fitted into the pressure chamber to form a gas/oil interface.

Weights

The standard instrument is supplied with weights in non-magnetic austenitic stainless steel. The standard sets of weights are inter-changeable between similar instruments.

Individual weights are marked with Budenberg logo. Look for logo on each mass in the main weight set as shown.

Accuracy and Certification

Standard Accuracy is 0.05% of pressure

The Standard Accuracy testers are supplied with TRACEABLE Area and Mass Certificates

The Class A Accuracy Testers are supplied with UKAS Area and Mass Certificates.

Application

The liquid column dead weight tester is a portable device used to measure air pressures for the 24 hour leak testing of pipelines at around 7 bar (100 lb/in²). It can also be used for lower pressure testing down to 1.5 bar (20 lb/in²) for the lower pressure gas mains. In the tests the tester is used to measure small changes of pressure so that resolution and stability are more important than absolute accuracy.

The liquid column dead weight tester combines the accuracy of the Dead weight tester with the ease of reading of a liquid column to give very small increments of pressure.

Principle of Operation (see illustration)

The air pressure acts on the surface of the liquid in the column. The base of the column is connected to a dead weight piston unit. When the system is in balance the column shows the difference between the pressure of the air and the pressure of the piston unit. The column is scaled in pressure units.

Use of Tester

Weights are added to the piston unit until it is approximately in balance with the liquid half way up the column. The system is then balanced by displacing oil with the compensator and the reading of the column scale taken.

Weights

The standard instrument is supplied with weights in non-magnetic austenitic stainless steel. The standard sets of weights are inter-changeable between similar instruments.

Individual weights are marked with Budenberg logo. Look for Logo as on each mass in the main weight set as shown.

Packing

Accuracy and Certification

Standard Accuracy is 0.05% of pressure

The Standard Accuracy testers are supplied with TRACEABLE Area and Mass Certificates

The Class A Accuracy Testers are supplied with UKAS Area and Mass Certificates.

Principle of Operation

The load is applied by a piston in a revolving cylinder to which a known hydraulic pressure is admitted. The cylinder and piston are accurately machined to give a known effective area; no packing or oil seal is fitted ensuring that there is no longitudinal friction between the piston and cylinder so that the force exerted is directly proportional to the pressure applied.

The press can be used in conjunction with a dead-weight pressure tester as illustrated above. In this form it may be regarded as a force multiplier, by which the weight of the weights applied to the piston (area a) is multiplied by the ratio A/a to give the force applied to the cell being calibrated.
